Sampson Gordon Bern

Sampson Gordon “Sam” Berns was born on October 23, 1996 and died on January 10, 2014. He was an America activist who had progeria(a rare, rapid aging disease) and raise awareness about the disease.

He is a junior at Foxboro, Massachusetts, where he achieved highest honor and was a percussion section leader in the high school matching band. He also achieved the rank of Eagle scout in the boy scout of America.

He was the HBO documentary “Life according to Sam”, which was first screened in January 2013.

Despite Sam’s progeria condition he is an activist. Currently there are 350 kids like him suffering from such condition worldwide who can become something more than an activist but they are not happy with themselves most of the time.

So looking at Sam’s perspective of life he never always think of progeria all the time instead he thinks of playing the band March, scouting, reading comics and other normal activities and he never get depressed because of his progeria condition.

Keys to happy life

According to Sam his happy life are base on 3 philosophies.

1. Be ok with what you can’t do because there much things you can do.

Normally people get frustrated and depressed when they fail, but being so should not make you unhappy.

2. Keep moving forward.

Steve Jobs once said if the world hit you a brick on your head don’t stop keep striving and moving.

No matter what you fail at don’t be discouraged and depressed, because every failure is a step to success.

3. Surround your self with people you to be with.

In life always gather the people you want to be with because they will make you happy and support you in any way they can, such people can be your family, friends from your school or your mentor, and always acknowledge them.

4. Never miss a party if you can help it.

Always have funs.

Finally the ultimate key way to happy life is being brave to overcome various obstacles, although is not always easy but keep moving.
